I’ve seen everything. The good and the bad. I wish I could close my eyes but I just keep sitting and staring. My first experience was pretty bad. All I could see was flailing limbs. It did not look like fun. The first kid fell and did not get back up. Luckily, I have seen the good stuff too. One knee and a ring is all it took to have the teacher crying. The kid was crying. I saw an F on his paper. He was begging and begging the teacher. The teacher looked sorry, but would not help. One word after another, the kid could spell them all. He was the best in the class. After just five minutes he had won the class spelling bee. All the kids were frustrated. The test was really confusing. Question after question they struggled to find the answer. The class cheered with joy. It was the last day of school. My vision was covered with chips, cookies, and smiles. |

Like a bomb bursting in the air They go in your lungs with a flare Leaving blackness everywhere In your soul it will leave a year Removing the person that was once there Separating them from the ones who care It will lead you down a new path But the effects have a gruesome aftermath Like a soldier, it changes them forever The truth will never waver Those who are lucky can find their savior For some, their future is not as fair For their fate is not one you can easily bare In the end they sit where a body was once there |

Why do the trees wave at me in the morning? Are they being polite and saying hello. or mocking me for having to get up before the Owner of the Day. Do they change magnificently different colors as an illusion or to have people stop and stare. You stop, look , and see red, then turn away only to send a backwards glance to the new fresh color of orange. As I stand and wait, the voices of the Kings, North and South, start to speak. It rang in my ear and startled my wavy brown hair The king's voices rustled the lifeless leafs, moving them to their final resting place. They land on a body so pure and sweet, that rests in the heart of the world. She gives small waves as I stand in the empty, grassy meadow that is lined with tall trees.. She stays still when the kings are asleep. She comes alive when she hears the roaring voices of the Kings echo in the distance. She gives to the white, soft beds of the four kings until they are filled and turn gray. The now dark beds cover the Owner of the Day to release the small, delicate drops back into the heart of the world. At the end they are all one, working together and as a whole. They know that without one they are nothing. Something we take for granted and just don’t realize it. They all know it’s a cycle of life that never ends. |

I walk along the streets I feel eyes on me as if I'm a creature no one's ever seen I try to convince myself it's not their fault you see simply because they were born free Allowed to feel welcome at the places they go dawdle, laugh, and play travel to and fro I hold back my remark since my kids will never know how it was, not long ago when your fate was decided because of the color of your skin humiliated and disgraced treated like no other simply because my skin was not of the white color How it feels to be treated fairly I'd never know but then I hear the whispers among the optimistic faces their hope like a wildfire spreading until it consumes their "forest" Nelson Mandela he's come to help the mere mention of the name ignites a spark among familiar faces or some I'd never guess since they're of the other races 1964 is met with outrage protests from all ages alike suddenly I feel motivated with the need to strike 1994 my race rejoices and cheers I will never forget that one fateful year when I was allowed to be treated just like my peers. |
